STA 2001: Statistics I & STA 2002: Statistics II: Home

Course Content

  • Basic concepts and properties of probability theory: sample space, events, probability, conditional probability, independent events.
  • Random variables, probability distributions, mathematical expectation, mean and variance, moments, joint distributions, independent random variables, discrete and continuous random variables, distributions of functions of a random variable. 
  • Discrete and continuous distributions: Bernoulli, binomial, Poisson, geometric and negative binomial distributions; uniform, exponential, gamma, beta, Weibull, Pareto, normal, chi-square and Student t-distributions.
  • Sampling distributions, convergence of random variables, laws of large numbers and central limit theorem, normal approximations.
