This course aims to equip students with the basic knowledge and methods of conducting research in translation practice, mainly in the area of legal translation. In this practice-oriented and text-specific course, students are required to undergo two stages of training: firstly, to translate different types of authentic legal texts; secondly, to give class presentations and write discussion papers on the practical issues of legal translation in the real world. Students are expected to actively use legal dictionaries/glossaries and read literature in the area.
The Routledge Encyclopedia of Translation Studies has been the standard, highly distinctive reference work in its field since it first appeared in 1968. Many of its features are not found elsewhere, especially its series of short histories of translation. Part I: General surveys the theory and practice of many disciplines now subsumed into the rubric Translation Studies, illuminating its dynamic development and widening contexts. Part II: History and Traditions spans 32 geographic, linguistic, or cultural areas, outlining and assessing each of their translation histories and traditions- Africa through to Turkey.
This book is a systematic study of the discipline Translation Studies. The emphasis throughout is on literary translation. It is organized in three sections. Section One is concerned with the central issues of translation, with the problem of meaning, untranslatability and equivalence, and with the question of translation as a part of communication theory. Section Two traces lines through different time periods, to show how concepts of translation have differed through the ages and yet have been bound by common links. Section Three examines the specific problems of translating poetry, prose and drama.

本書用中文介紹中港臺法律詞匯，系統整理三地英漢譯詞。書中每壹章解釋壹個和約法詞匯，以香港普通法概念為主軸，再探討內地與臺灣法主要的法學觀點及原則。第壹部分主述合約之成立、內容、失效及補救次序。本書重新翻譯大量對香港法院具約束力或指引作用的經典案例，其中多來自19及20世紀的英國。第二部分是英漢詞匯表，收錄了共102條中港臺英漢合約法詞匯，詞匯表的中文術語多為翻譯詞，其來源首先是中港臺法律條文，再輔以雙語字典之翻譯。
This book explores the linguistic and legal aspects of translating law, and examines the interpretive interaction between various languages and legal cultures. It adopts an interdisciplinary approach combining linguistic and legal theories with translation practice. The first part of the book presents the theoretical aspects related to legal translation, such as the nature of legal language, the relationships between law and language and their implications for legal translation, and the perennial question of equivalence and the possibility and impossibility of legal translation. The second part is practice-oriented, focusing on the practical aspects of legal translation, particularly the different types of legal texts.
