The Institute of Physics (IOP), founded in 1873, is an organization dedicated to enhancing the understanding and application of physics. IOPscience covers the fields of Applied Physics, Computer Science, Condensed Matter & Material Science, General Physics, High-energy & Nuclear Physics, Mathematics & Applied Mathematics, Mathematical Physics, Measurement Science & Sensor, Medical Science & Biology, Photonics, Atom & Molecule Physics, Physical Education, and Plasma Physics.
IOP publishes journals for the following world-renowned academic associations: Institute of Physics (UK), Chinese Physical Society, European Physical Society, German Physical Society, European Optical Society, International Bureau of Weights and Measures, London Mathematical Society, International Atomic Energy Agency, Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Society for Radiological Protection, Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine, Institute of Plasma Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, International School for Advanced Studies (Italy), Nanjing Institute of Geophysical Prospecting, International Society for Respiratory Research, and International Society for Olfaction and Chemical Sensing, etc.
IOP offers a total of 79 journals for cooperative publishing. Libraries participating in the DRAA joint procurement have purchased 75 current journals, and the National Science and Technology Library (NSTL) has provided free access to 14 journals to academic, non-profit research, and educational institutions nationwide.
The National Science and Technology Library (NSTL) purchased the IOP online journal backfile database (1874-2002) and the Turpion online journal backfile database (1958-2002) in 2009, providing access to research institutions nationwide.
