This course mainly includes three parts. Firstly, the basic concept and theory of engineering materials are systematically introduced. Secondly, structure and performance of different kinds of engineering materials, including metallic materials, polymer materials, ceramic materials, composite materials, and functional materials, are presented. Lastly, knowledge about the application of engineering materials is introduced, including part failure analysis, material selection, typical workpieces, and application of engineering materials in real cases.
It provides a broad introduction to the mechanical and environmental properties of materials used in a wide range of engineering applications. The text is deliberately concise, with each chapter designed to cover the content of one lecture.
It provides a concise introduction to the microstructures and processing of materials, and shows how these are related to the properties required in engineering design.
