Course Description

Macroeconomics is the study of the economy as a whole. This course looks at the entire economy to understand its behavior and the factors that affect it. Key issues of study include GDP, economic growth, interest rates, unemployment, inflation, and business cycles. The study of Macroeconomics enables the evaluation of government economic policy and its impact on the business environment.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, we will be able to:

  • Define basic macroeconomic terms and concepts and synthesise them into a coherent framework.

  • Analyse and predict the behaviour of the aggregate economy in the short and long run.

  • Understand how policies and events affect key markets (labour, loanable funds, goods/services) and key macroeconomic variables (inflation, unemployment, GDP).

  • Discuss current macroeconomic affairs and the recent economic history of major economies (e.g., China, Europe, the US) by applying concepts and theories from the course.
